Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • After VM storage vMotion, automatic unmap does not reclaim all freed blocks
  • Atomatic unmap reclaims only 200 or 250 GB
  • When smaller VMs (e.g. 128G) are migrated away from that datastore then all the space will be freed on storage
  • manual unmap  (esxcli storage vmfs unmap) is successful

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.3

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Resolution

This issue will be resolved in VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0 P10 and VMware vSphere ESXi  8.0 P04
