Error " Internal Server Error" when migrating Virtual Machines between vAPPs across datacenter

Issue/Introduction

  • You select a Virtual Machine to move across Datacenter.
  • You click on the move options and click Move button. 
  • You select the appropriate vAPP to move the VM across. 
  • But when the all the options are filled up and the VM is ready to move it throws an error:

[ xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx ] Internal Server Error

 - Internal Server Error

 - java.lang.NullPointerException

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Director 10.4.2

Cause

The issue occurs when the resources between VCD and vSphere have not been synchronized properly. 

 

Resolution

To resolve the issue, Reconnect and Refresh the vCenter instance in the Cloud Director portal. 

  1. From the top navigation bar, under Resources, click Infrastructure Resources.
  2. In the left panel, select vCenter Server Instances.
  3. Click the radio button next to the name of the target vCenter Server instance and click Reconnect.
  4. To confirm, click OK.
  5. Click back at the radio button next to the name of the target vCenter Server instance again and click Refresh.
