Issue/Introduction

  • Delete Old snapshots in Automation Central has stopped working as it is unable to find old snapshots on the VMs.
  • Out the box report 'Optimization Report- Virtual Machine with Snapshot' is not showing data anymore, although there are VMS in vCenter which do have old snapshots present.

  • Data is not loading for multiple VMs on the Summary and Capacity Tabs.

Environment

Aria Operations Cloud

Aria Operations

Cause

  • In this situation the issue was caused by duplicate identical Symptom definitions in a custom Alert definition.
  • The file: /storage/log/vcops/log/analytics-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx.log
    contains the following error:
2024-05-27T13:55:23,446+0000 ERROR [Cache Loader worker thread 20]  com.integrien.alive.dbaccess.AnalyticsDBUtil.preloadResourceCache - Failed to preload resource cache for resource id - 10101

Resolution

  1. In the Aria Ops UI browse to:
Configure >> Alerts >> Alert Definitions
  2. In the list of all Alert definitions, click on Filters then click on view more filters.
  3. In the 'Defined by' field, fill 'User' and click Apply
  4. This view will now display only custom alerts created by users.
  5. Open each alert and find which alert has duplicate symptom definitions.
  6. Fix the alert by deleting one of the duplicate symptom definitions.

For On-prem Aria Ops:

SSH to each analytics node using root credentials and run the following command:

service analytics restart

For Aria operations on Cloud :

As you will be unable to restart the analytics service, please contact VMware support who will assist.
