Issue/Introduction

In Hourly Usage Report, license keys are reported as hashed i.e. ###########

Environment

VCF Usage Meter 9.x

Cause

The vCenter user which has been added as an endpoint for vCloud Usage Meter collection does not have the correct permissions assigned.

Resolution

Provide the necessary permission to the vCenter User associated for the Usage Meter collection by following the document below:

Assign Permissions for vCenter for Metering with VCF Usage Meter section in the VMware Cloud Foundation Usage Meter Deployment and Administration Guide document.

The steps below are taken from the guide linked above.

Procedure:

1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client with your administrator credentials.
2. Navigate to Menu > Administration.
3. Assign the following permissions.
  • Set the storage privileges.
  • For vCenter Server versions 8.x, select VM storage policies > View VM storage policies.
  • For vCenter Server versions 7.x, select Profile-driven storage > Profile-driven storage view.
  • To allow managing and viewing license keys, select Global > Licenses.
  • If the vCenter Server instance has vSAN enabled, select Cns > Searchable.
  • Click Next.
4. Enter a name and a description for the new role and click Finish.
5. Assign the new role to the user which you use for VCF Usage Meter collection with proper permissions.
