Issue/Introduction

Data Repository cluster with 3 nodes.

In NetOps Portal System Status page, one of the nodes is designated as Primary "Yes"

What is the function of this Primary node, and what are its implication?

Environment

DX NetOps Portal 23.3.x

Resolution

That Primary node designation is an old concept from previous versions of NetOps Performance Management.  It used to be the node where all the iRep queries from Data Aggregator went through.

Currently, all calls from Data Aggregator to the Data Repository (Vertica) database goes in Round Robin through all the Cluster nodes via connection pool.

The node listed as Primary can change.
If the node designated as Primary goes down, another node in the Cluster is automatically selected.
If the vertica database is restarted, a new random Primary node is selected.

Additional Information

The Primary column in the System Status page for Data Repository can be hide to avoid users seeing the value.

To hide or add a column, mouse over the existing column in the View. Click on the gear icon in the grid header.  Select the column to hide/add (it hide/show immediately on selection).  Then on the same gear icon menu, select Save Column Settings.
