XCOM ISPF not displaying History records

Issue/Introduction

History records are not being displayed when using the XCOM ISPF panels even though History records are being recorded to the History file.

Environment

XCOM r12.0 for z/OS

Cause

Per the DODEBUG the last statements/command being executed from the CLIST were:

ATTR HOU131 BLKSIZE(0) LRECL(8080) DSORG(PS) RECFM(F B)

ALLOC F(XCHOU131) NEW USING(HOU131) DELETE AVBLOCK(8080) SP(5000 5000) 

FREE F(XCHOU131)

Those commands will allocate the temporary file that will hold the History records to display. If there is a problem with the allocation of the temporary file, then messages should appear in the users TSO session JESYSMSG SYSOUT indicating why the allocation failed.

In this case, the problem was related to the systems SMS.

Resolution

In order to get to the bottom of this problem, we had the user take the same commands, see above, and enter them via the TSO option 6(commands).

When the commands were issued they received messages as to why the allocation of the temporary file failed, which allowed them to determine that it was SMS related.
