Issue/Introduction

After a Live Patch remediation is completed in the vSphere client, the host image update page shows:

"All hosts in this cluster are compliant"

While the remediation detail contains errors similar to:

"The Live Patch image was remediated. However, an error occurred while executing post-remediation Live Patch script(s) '01_vmx-apply-published'."

"Failed to execute Live Patch script '01_vmx-apply-published'."

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0 U3

Cause

Since Live Patch is performed while most virtual machine operations continue as usual on the host, a running virtual machine may be powered off or migrated to a different host at any time. Such operations can conflict with Live Patch activities and result in benign errors.

Resolution

The overall cluster compliance status is the sole indicator of whether the upgrade must be re-applied. No further action is necessary if all the cluster hosts are compliant.
