Issue/Introduction

With Datacom Version 15.1, database and control files (CXX, LXX, FXX) can now be managed as VSAM Linear Data Sets (LDS) or as traditional EXCP files.

As part of the first customization job for Datacom/AD (AXCUS01), you need to provide the proper SMS Data Class name that meets the Datacom requirements for LDS files. There is a Datacom utility report provided to report on these SMS Data Classes, and the report can tell you which classes are suitable for Datacom usage.

However, DBUTLTY requires both the base software loadlib (CAAXLOAD) and a Custom loadlib for a Version 15.1 MUF being created (CUSLIB). If there are no Version 15.1 MUFs, this utility cannot be run.

This article will provide an alternate JCL file that can be used to list one or more Data Classes using ISMF batch processing.

Resolution

The attached job can be run to list certain columns from the ISMF Data Class display that apply to Datacom LDS allocations. A few points to note:

  1. This job assumes that you have the ISMF application for ISPF installed. It will use the DFSMS Sample JCL library SYS1.SACBCNTL by default, or an alternate name for this file can be entered in the JCL.
  2. This job assumes that the ISPF component file uses standard SYS1.DGT* filenames. These are managed by variables to the ACBJBAOB proc in the above JCL library.
  3. Two reports are produced by this job in order to keep the report line length under 133. The JCL can be modified to produce a single report if desired, by combining all the fields into a single SYSIN file. You can modify the field names and their order as best suited to your needs.

Once you have the desired SMS Data Class names for the VSAM LDS file groups you want to create, please enter them into the AXCUS01 job in the section VSAM SETTINGS.

Additional Information

If you would like more information on the batch ISMF processing, please refer to the z/OS DFSMSdfp Storage Administration documentation for Using Naviquest and topic Performing storage administration tasks in Batch.

As always, please contact Broadcom support for Datacom if you have further questions.
