"Unable to connect to the Veeam backup infrastructure: please contact your service provider" error accessing Veeam plugin via the tenant portal in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

• Veeam plugin installed on VCD is not accessible via the tenant portal. Fails with the below error :

• No errors on the provider portal. The plugin shows as installed, ready and enabled for the respective tenant in the provider UI.
• Browsing directly to the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager URL might fail with an error: "ERR_SSL_KEY_USAGE_INCOMPATIBLE"

 

 

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x 

 

 

Cause

• Cloud Director system administrators cannot access Veeam Self-Service Backup Portal since they are not organization members.
• Issue with the SSL certificate on the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager. 

Resolution

• The following organization members have access to Veeam Self-Service Backup Portal:
  
  • Cloud Director organization administrator
  • Cloud Director organization member that has all of the following rights granted in VMware Cloud Director:
        General: Administrator Control
        General: Administrator View
        User: View Users and Groups
        Organization: View Organization Administrative Details

• Check if the veeam URL is accessible directly. If SSL errors are observed, please consult with veeam support :
