Issue/Introduction

How can Outlook servers be monitored in AppNeta?

Are these AnyCast servers managed by AppNeta? How can Teams/Outlook/Exchange be monitored on the cloud?

Environment

Appneta SaaS

Resolution

gmt.pm.appneta.com is managed by AppNeta and provides bidirectional visibility into Azure regions hosting Microsoft Teams. This is for all Microsoft's cloud services. See the following for further details:

TechDocs : Appneta : Monitoring Microsoft Teams

There are specific anycast servers recommended for monitoring Microsoft services, as per:

TechDocs : Appneta : Monitoring Microsoft Services

So for Outlook, you can use outlook.office365.com.

You should also be able to monitor Exchange servers in the same way since this applies to gmt.pm.appneta.com which applies for all of Microsoft's cloud services, including Exchange.

To differentiate between them, Internet Exchange networks should be identified in the Networks view of the Route Visualization.

Furthermore, Experience does Selenium monitoring, so you could use that to monitor any website.  For example, if the Outlook server has a 'website' or front page reachable from the Monitoring Point, you could use Selenium script commands to visit it, and depending on security, log in, click around, etc.

Otherwise, you can reach out to the IP/FQDN with ICMP (or dual ended if a software monitoring point can be deployed).
