Issue/Introduction

The record counts printed by the Endevor reporting facility program (C1BR1000) may be a bit misleading when the utility is only passed EXTRACT statements.

Field TOTAL NUMBER OF RECORDS FOR REPORTS EXTRACTED prints as zero which may lead to think that no records have been extracted

Resolution

When only EXTRACT statements are passed to the utility, for example, EXTRACT 03, the extract summary produced would be:

C1BR3000: EXTRACT PHASE SUMMARY
REPORT TITLE                                        RECORDS
--------------------------------------------------  -------
CONRPT03:  ELEMENT CATALOG                                1
TOTAL NUMBER OF RECORDS FOR REPORTS EXTRACTED             0
C1BR3000: NO REPORTS WILL BE PRODUCED

The above summary means that

  • 1 record was selected that matched the selection criteria for report 03 (regardless of whether the request was REPORT 03 or EXTRACT 03)
  • Zero records were passed to the reporting phase (written to SORTIN DD). This will for sure happen when all the requests are for EXTRACT
  • Since no records were passed to the reporting phase, no reports will be produced

Regardless of whether reports are produced, all the records selected for any report will be written to ddname EXTRACT, if it is present in the JCL, and no count of records written to EXTRACT DD will be printed anywhere
