Issue/Introduction

Unable to remediate ESXi hosts in HyperFlex cluster using vCenter Lifecycle manager.

Environment

ESXi hosts are running in a Cisco HyperFlex cluster, and using vCenter Lifecycle Manager to remediate (update) the ESXi hosts.

Cause

The HyperFlex storage controller VM remains powered on, and prevents the ESXi host from entering maintenance mode. Eventually the process will timeout and show a generic error regarding the failed remediation. If you monitor the ESXi host during this process you will notice that it never enters maintenance mode, and will not proceed with the update process.

Resolution

Please see the following article from Cisco for the correct procedure on Entering and/or Exiting Cisco HyperFlex Maintenance Mode.
