Issue/Introduction

  • Upgrading Cloud Director fails at the database upgrade phase
  • When running the Database upgrade command, /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/upgrade, the following error is noticed:
    2024-03-13 23:01:12,636 | ERROR | main | UpgradeAgent | Could not retrieve database schema version: could not inspect JDBC autocommit mode | org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: could not inspect JDBC autocommit mode. Unable to upgrade the database: org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: An I/O error occurred while sending to the backend.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.4.x

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

Cause

This issue can occur when vCD database is on the higher size.

Resolution

Database modifications are required to reduce the size of vCD database and this is to be done under the supervision of Broadcom Technical Support. Please open a Support request with Broadcom.
