Issue/Introduction

While trying to remove a policy from the device group you can see the below warning:

"Cannot remove Policy from the device group. Try to override the Policy."

Environment

Symantec Endpoint Security cloud console.

Resolution

The way the SES console works is:

  • all newly created groups will automatically inherit policies from their parent group up to the root group.
  • any clients installed to the new group will receive/utilize those policies.

There is no option to disable inheritance and you cannot remove a policy from a child group.

If you would like to use a different version of a policy than the parent one, you can directly apply a new policy to the child group. This will override the inherited policy.

Policy can be only removed at a root level except the core ones mentioned here.

The core policies can be only overridden by another policy of the same type.
