Issue/Introduction

  • Metric collection for the "vSphere World" object is currently unavailable in VMware Aria Operations.

  • The object status is typically reported as "Not Collecting" or displays a "None" state in the user interface.

  • This collection failure directly results in the absence of metric data needed to populate associated views and dashboards, such as the Summary Widget in the Reclamation Dashboard.

Environment

Aria Operation 8.x

Cause

  • The vSphere World object's collection status is dependent on the Container adapter instance.
  • When this adapter encounters an issue, the vSphere World object stops collecting data. This results in the object showing a "None" state in the UI and having no metrics available under its Metrics tab.

Resolution

  • Verify vSphere World Object Health:

    • Access the Aria Operations instance experiencing the issue.
    • Navigate to the vSphere World object within the Aria Operations interface from Inventory >  vSphere World.
    • Check if the object is in a healthy state (typically indicated by a green Check (✔︎) mark).

  • Restarting the Container Adapter Instance

To force the vSphere World object to resume data collection, follow these steps to restart the responsible adapter instance:

    1. Navigate to the adapter configuration section in VMware Aria Operations (Path: Operations > Configuration > Inventory Management ).

    2. Expand Adapter instances and select the Container adapter instance
    3. Locate and select the Container adapter instance object from the list.

    4. Restart the adapter instance by:

      • Placing the selected object into Maintenance Mode.

      • Waiting for 2–3 minutes to allow the collection process to terminate.

      • Immediately removing the object from Maintenance Mode.
