Issue/Introduction

When doing a global search for a device it fails unless you search for the alias of the device

When performing a global search using specific scopes such as "Names" or "Search Device and Interface Names," the search returns no results or "Nothing." However, using the "Search All" option successfully finds the items.

Symptoms:

  • Global device search fails for specific scopes.
  • "Search All" returns results, but specific attribute searches (Name/Interface) do not.
  • Search may fail specifically when searching for the alias of a device.
  • Device NameAlias may appear as an IP address instead of the expected string.

Environment

Network Observability Dx NetOps Performance Management Portal

Cause

This issue occurs when conflicting Role Rights are assigned to the same user role. Specifically, assigning both of the following rights creates a conflict:

  • View Item Display Name or Name Alias: Allows users to see display names or aliases.
  • View Item Name Alias Only: Restricts users to seeing only aliases.

Resolution

Ensure that only one of the two name-related role rights is assigned to a specific role.

  1. Navigate to Administration > User Settings > Roles.
  2. Select the Role assigned to the user and click Edit.
  3. Locate the DX NetOps rights section.
  4. Verify the assigned rights. If both rights are present, remove the View Item Name Alias Only right by moving it to the left (Available) column.
  5. Save the changes.
  6. Have the impacted user log out and log back in to refresh the permissions.

Additional Information

  • If no name-related role right is explicitly added, View Item Display Name or Name Alias is assumed by default.
  • For more information on configuring roles, see Role Rights.
