Issue/Introduction

This article outlines the resolution for the "ldap_bind: Server is unavailable (52)" error encountered when deploying a UserStore on a secondary node within a CA Identity Manager Virtual Appliance (VA) cluster environment.

Environment

Virtual Appliance 14.5

Cause

The error occurs when the auth-levels setting in the directory knowledge file (/opt/CA/Directory/dxserver/config/knowledge) is incorrectly configured as "anonymous," preventing the authentication bind required for cluster communication.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to the directory configuration folder on the affected node: /opt/CA/Directory/dxserver/config/knowledge.
  2. Locate the knowledge file corresponding to the UserStore.
  3. Open the file and verify the auth-levels parameter.
  4. Modify the auth-levels value to clear-password.
  5. Save the changes to the file.
  6. Restart the CA Directory service to apply the new authentication settings.
  7. Attempt the UserStore deployment on the second node again.
