Having uninstalled Microsoft Project Interface for CA PPM 14.2, and attempting to install CA PPM 14.3 the following error is prompted: Unable to install application because an application with the same identity is already installed. To install this application, either modify the manifest version for this application or uninstall the preexisting application.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry.
Before you modify the registry, make sure to create back up of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur.
For more information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, please review the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base.

1. Run one of the following two commands from the command prompt

  • Run the mage.exe

  • rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

Reboot machine if issue still exists.

2. Uninstall any installed piece of the MSP Interface from Control Panel, then reinstall VSTO.Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48217 and run through the installation.

3. Delete registry keys that reference the CA Clarity Addin (this may not be an all-inclusive list, and not all may be found). These are NOT part of the normal clean uninstall steps.

  • First do a clean uninstall of the MSP Interface

To locate the following registery keys below, enter 'regedit' from the command prompt.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VSTA\Solutions\{GUID}Check to ensure that you're deleting the right key. Confirm by checking the DWORD "Url" value at the key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Addins\CAClarityAddIn (Delete entire folder after creating a backup)

HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (Delete any CAClarityAddin references after creating a backup)

HKEY_USERS\5-1-5-21-(Plus a bunch more numbers that vary by machine)\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\CustomUIValidationCache

<Please see attached file for image>

Note: The above folder ID may vary, so in the HKEY_USERS folder you might have to check multiple folders to see which one has the Custom Validation cache.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\product\Addins\addinName (all users entry)

and, depending on the system, the Wow6432Node as well under HKLM &/or HKCU

4. Delete the following folder on the machine if it exists

           ·         Open C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Apps

·         Create a backup of the 2.0 folder and then delete it

·         Delete the reference on the registry as well if it reappeared.
