Issue/Introduction

This article addresses the "Object no longer in scope" error that appears on create or modify screens for users, groups, and organizations within the Identity Manager User Console or TEWS interface.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

The issue is typically caused by one of the following:

  • The object is being created in a location that falls outside of the Base DN defined in the directory.xml configuration.
  • The administrator performing the task lacks the necessary admin permissions to manage the specific organization where the object resides.
  • (TEWS only) Intermittent session or timing issues during web service submission

Resolution

  1. Verify the Base DN settings in your directory.xml to ensure the target container is within the defined scope.
  2. Confirm the performing user has "Manage" permissions for the target organization.
  3. If using TEWS and the error is intermittent, implement a retry logic in the web service call.
