Issue/Introduction

Unable to move vSAN host from a Workload Domain to another VI workload domain.

Environment

An ESXi host that was part of a Workload Domain is being moved to another VI workload domain.

Cause

ESXi hosts that are part of a Workload domain must be properly decommissioned before being added to another VI workload domain.

Resolution

Before adding the host to another VI workload domain, it must be removed from the SDDC Manager inventory. You can remove a host from a vSphere cluster in the management domain or a VI workload domain through the Workload Domains page in SDDC Manager UI. Before you remove a host from a vSphere cluster, ensure that you have enough hosts remaining to facilitate the configured vSAN availability. Failure to do so might result in the datastore being marked as read-only or in data loss. For more information please see VMware Cloud Foundation - Remove a Host from a vSphere Cluster in a Workload Domain.

If you want to re-use a host in a different workload domain, you must decommission, re-image, and commission the host before adding it to the workload domain. For more information on decommissioning hosts see Decommission Hosts.
