Issue/Introduction

  • vSAN Build Recommendation Engine, or vSAN VUM is a feature which was integrated with vSphere Update Manger(VUM) and vSAN users can use it to update their vSAN cluster to a recent upgrade or patch release that vSAN recommends.
  • There are fully automated and/or semi-automated workflows in vSAN Build Recommendation Engine which may leverage certain web services hosted by VMware.
  • As part of VMware and Broadcom integration, some of the VMware web services are now migrated to the Broadcom domain which will impact the functionality of vSAN Build Recommendation Engine.
  • As a result, users of vSAN Build Recommendation Engine may start to see errors as the product installed in the field may still connect to those VMware web services and be impacted by the migration.
  • This issue only impacts users with vSAN VUM enabled, vSAN users with vSphere LifeCycle Manager (vLCM) enabled will NOT be impacted
  • If your cluster is being managed by a Baseline then VUM is in use, if it's being managed by a Desired Image then vLCM is in use.

Resolution

For vSAN Clusters with Internet connectivity

Customer should reestablish vSAN Build Recommendation Engine's connection to Broadcom depot with their migrated Broadcom depot user credentials.

1. On vSAN UI, log in to Broadcom Depot with a valid user credential.
Note: You must complete the user account migration to the Broadcom Support Portal. The previous VMware account will no longer work.

1) Find "vSAN Build Recommendation Engine Health", click "TROUBLESHOOT"

2) Click "LOGIN TO MY.VMWARE.COM"

3) Use your migrated Broadcom Depot user credential to login

After completing these remediation steps, vSAN VUM will continue to function as expected.

For Air-gapped vSAN Clusters

1. Download the latest vSAN release catalog .json file from here.

2. Copy the downloaded vSAN release catalog to the Airgapped vSAN Cluster, and upload it to vSAN VUM on the VC UI

1) upload vSAN Release Catalog by clicking "UPDATE FROM FILE", from one of the UIs below(depending on the VC version)

(or)

2. (Optionally) Download ISO images from the new Broadcom Support Portal, and upload them to the VUM server

After completing these remediation steps, vSAN VUM will continue to function as expected.
