Issue/Introduction

When cloudConfig is utilized in Aria Automation's template to customize VM deployment, there is some possibility that cloud-init cannot complete.

Cause

vm tools or open-vm-tools will reboot OS after customization phase, which may interrupt cloud-init's execution。

Resolution

Either resolution below can be used:

  • Execute vmware-toolbox-cmd as below to set wait-cloudinit-timeout to 600
    # /usr/bin/vmware-toolbox-cmd config set deployPkg wait-cloudinit-timeout 600

  • Editing the file /etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf manually and adding/modifying the following block:
    [deployPkg]
    wait-cloudinit-timeout=600

Additional Information

Please refer to:

Cloud-init customization does not complete because open-vm-tools triggers reboot during provisioning
