Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Alarms for NSX Edge nodes are present in NSX Manager interface but no issues or down services are found when investigating the Edges directly.

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center

Cause

The NSX Managers utilizes the root user password to validate some health states on the NSX Edges. If the root password on the Edge node has expired, false positive alarms for the Edge may trigger in the NSX Manager.

Resolution

Connect to the Edge(s) that the false positive alarm references with either an SSH session or VM console and attempt to authenticate using the root account and password. If the root user password is expired, it will immediately prompt to be updated.
