• Users may see the error as "A general System error occurred, metadata or VIBs are not available"

Environment

• Error seen in the environment :- "A general System error occurred, metadata or VIBs are not available"
• Cannot download software packages from patch source. Check the events and the Lifecycle Manager log for download details

Cause

• All the legacy VMware patch and update content for ESXi releases less than vSphere 6.7 are no more available on hostupdate.vmware.com

Resolution

• Since these are legacy patches hence they have been removed
