Issue/Introduction

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) downloads new content successfully, but then subsequently fails to install the new content into the database for distribution to clients that request the new content.

Environment

DBValidator checks pass when looking for broken database links.

Scm-server log shows the following repeatedly:

Unexpected server error. in: com.sygate.scm.server.consolemanager.requesthandler.ConfigServerHandler
com.sygate.scm.server.metadata.MetadataException: The operating system returned the error '1392(The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.)' while attempting 'FsLogMgr::LogInternal:CreateFile' on '\\?\C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\DB\MSSQL14.SQLEXPRESSSYMC\MSSQL\DATA\sem5_filestream\$FSLOG\fffeb3fe-ffff9156-fff5.00014c01-00006ea9-0002.0cb1f173-937a-4e53-a78b-7d24cefbd1f1~2fa87cda-b774-43ef-ade1-767a8fb73696~00014c01-00006ea9-0002.d36455d-0.1000011'.


The ConfigServer log shows the following in correlation with the scm-server log:

WARNING: com.sygate.scm.server.metadata.MetadataException: The operating system returned the error '1392(The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.)' while attempting 'FsLogMgr::LogInternal:CreateFile' on '\\?\C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\DB\MSSQL14.SQLEXPRESSSYMC\MSSQL\DATA\sem5_filestream\$FSLOG\fffeb3fe-ffff9156-fff5.00014c01-00006ea9-0002.0cb1f173-937a-4e53-a78b-7d24cefbd1f1~2fa87cda-b774-43ef-ade1-767a8fb73696~00014c01-00006ea9-0002.d36455d-0.1000011'.


The Windows application event logs show the following in correlation:

While rolling back a transaction, an error occurred while trying to deliver a rollback notification to the FILESTREAM filter driver.  Error code: 0xc0000225.

Cause

File system corruption has occurred where the filestream data is being saved for the database within the filestream filegroup.

Resolution

Run the windows CHKDSK utility on the server in order to allow Windows to make corrections to the file system.
