Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When using the SMP/E Planning and Migration Assistant tool, BCN2APRR, you can get this error-message for the CA 1 CSI when it tries to create an inventory product list of the CSI:

GIM30600E ** THERE IS A SYNTAX ERROR IN THE FILTER PARAMETER IN CHARACTER POSITION 32.

BCN015 Command failed - Command SELECT PGM(BCN2PFC) was executed from BCN2APRR.

The command completed with a return code of 8.

Environment: 

z/OS SMP/E Planning and Migration Assistant using option "Products Applied".

This could occur using any SMP/E CSI.

Cause:

The SMP/E tool is looking in its Rexx for 2 pieces of information: PRODUCT or FEATURE in the GLOBAL zone.

In most of our CA Technology products, the CSI does not contain records for these 2 options in the GLOBAL zone.

The failure is in the call of the program BCN2PFC because it can't create the FILTER parameter list it needs to execute correctly.

Resolution:

Do not use this SMP/E Planning and Migration Assistant tool to add into the IBM SMP/E Software Information database records for CA Technology products.
