Issue/Introduction

***Note that the Service Level Manager fat client application is no longer officially supported.***

The connection parameters for SLM are extracted from the nas probe, data_engine probe and the sla_engine / report_engine parameters through the data_engine's configuration.

Since NMS v5.60 or higher , NMS no longer ships with a report_engine, so the data_engine will not natively have a report_engine configured. This prevents the SLM application from being configured and usable.

Environment

Release:
Component: CAUIM

Resolution

NOTE: THIS WILL ONLY WORK FROM UIM VERSIONS 5.61 to 8.51.  9.02 AND LATER CANNOT INTERACT WITH THE SLM THICK CLIENT IN ANY WAY DUE TO DATA_ENGINE CHANGES.

Follow these steps to get the SLM fat client working:

  1. Launch Raw Configure on the data_engine probe in Infrastructure Manager.
  2. in the <setup> section add the key/value:  report_engine = /<Domain>/<hubname>/<robotname>/report_engine

(use the actual primary hub robot information here.)

Note that the report_engine probe need not exist, but the address needs to be populated in order for the configuration to be considered valid by the Service Level Manager.

Once you have set the path key value in the Raw Configure dialog, you will then be able to successfully launch Service Level Manager.

If for some reason you still encounter errors follow the steps below:

1. Open the Service Level Manager (SLM) and select the 'User Preferences' Tab, then change something e.g., select "Save window prefernces on exit" the OK button gets enabled.

2. If you hit OK then enter/reenter the correct IP address (change a digit) for your Primary Hub, you shouldn't get the SLM permission denied message, you will see a different error, e.g.,

"Unable to connect to the configured Data Engine ()!!
Please reconfigure..."

3. Then select the 'SLM Connection' Tab again and if you hit the Query button, it should work and populates the NimBUS address fields.

4. Click Ok and you should be prompted to enter your administrator user name: 'User Name' and 'Password' to login to the Service Level Manager.

Note that if the sla_engine address is not populated you may have to add it to the data_engine setup section as well.
