How can I edit the Main.jrxml file for a report through the iReport client and have the changes saved to the repository?

Introduction

In certain cases, it's necessary to edit the XML code from a report in the iReport client.? This following procedure can be used to publish the updates to the repository for future report executions.

Procedure

As an example, let's say we need to make an edit to the?query in the Main.jrxml file for the 'Top 20 Interfaces by Bandwidth inbound' report and republish it.? To do this use the following procedure:

1)? Open the Main.jrxml file and select the XML view.? Notice the temp file, 'file_1365019431493.jrxml' which is created:

2)? Make the necessary edits to the XML code.? In this case, we'll change the QoS name in the query:

3)? Select File -> Save As... and save a local copy of the 'temp' file:

4)? Right-click on the Main.jrxml file and select Properties:

5)? Select Resource -> (check) Replace the resource with this file:? Choose your saved file and select Save:

6)? Select Cancel:

7)? Close and reopen iReport (which will reload reports from the repository), navigate to your Main.jrxml file and verify that the changes have been saved and stored.
