Issue/Introduction

How to Troubleshoot VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle upgrades issues.

Symptoms:
VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle upgrade service differs by versions:

vami: upgrades to 8.12 or earlier.
cap services: upgrade to 8.14 and later.

"VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle is empowered with Common Appliance Platform (CAP), which replaces the VMware Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) for product installations and upgrades. CAP is an approach to standardize appliance management for all VMware appliances. CAP uses port 8000."

Environment

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.x
VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.x

Resolution

During the upgrade the following logs needs to be analyzed:

Upgrades to 8.12 and earlier:

/var/log/vrlcm/bootstrap.log
/var/log/bootstrap/*
/var/log/bootstrap/postupdate.log
/opt/vmware/var/log/vami/*
/var/log/vrlcm/vmware_vrlcm.log

Upgrades to 8.14 and later:

/var/log/vrlcm/vmware_vrlcm.log
/var/log/vmware/cap_am/*
/var/log/vmware/capengine/*
/var/log/vmware/capenginecap-non-lvm-update/installer-<<timestamp>>.log
/var/log/bootstrap/*
/data/script.log
- Not included in log bundles. This will provide information about the post upgrade issue identified in After upgrading VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.12 to 8.14 the build & version numbers are not updated.
The upgrade requires more than 3 GB in the / partition. See "The /dev/sda4 partition has insufficient free disk space" message during prechecks for upgrade to Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.14 for additional information.
