How to Add a vCenter Server Instance to Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.x

Symptoms:

Unable to pick a VM within a data center from vCenter inventory in Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.x.

The inventory tree does not load anything to pick a specific VM or cluster to run the workload against.

 

Environment

Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.x

Cause

vCenter server instance must be added to Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.x in order to select specific vCenter line-item from Inventory.

Resolution

1. Log in to Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.x client as a user having the appropriate permissions to use the Orchestrator client.

2. In the left pane Click on Library and Workflows.

3. In the workflow library, search for Add a vCenter Server Instance workflow and click on Run.

4. A dialog box will open and prompt for the following input:

  • IP or hostname from the vCenter Server. (The hostname that you enter is case-sensitive).
    • The HTTPS port is 443.
    • Enter “/sdk” within the Location of the SDK input box.
    • Select Yes for Will you orchestrate this instance.
    • With the Ignore Certificate Warnings checkbox, select Yes.

5. Click on the second tab “Set the connection properties”, it will ask for the below details.

  • For Use shared Session select Yes.
    • In the Username for Orchestrator to connect to the vCenter Server field, enter [email protected].
    • Provide the Password of the user.
    • Enter the Domain name.

6. Move to the 3rd tab Additional Endpoints and verify the details.

7. Now click on Run and it will start the workflow.

8. Once the workflow runs successfully and is completed, you can see your vCenter server added in vSphere vCenter Plug-in
