Issue/Introduction

On the VMware Identity Manager (vIDM) 3.3.7 appliance, you experience these symptoms:

  • Random network connection drops.
  • In the vIDM journald logs, you see entries similar to:

NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (e1000): transmit queue 0 timed out
    eth0: Lost carrier
LOG: watchdog node state changed from [STANDBY] to [IN NETWORK TROUBLE]
FATAL: system has lost the network

Environment

vIDM 3.3.x

Cause

This issue occurs due to the vIDM appliance configured to use the e1000 network driver by default and the VIDM 3.3.7 which runs on photon 3.0 does not support e1000 adapters.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7

Currently, there is no resolution. There is a workaround.

Workaround:

  1. Power off the vIDM cluster from Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager.(LCM)
  2. Login to the vCenter and access the VIDM nodes.
  3. Navigate to the appliance > Edit Settings > remove the e1000 network adapter and click OK.
  4. Navigate to the appliance > Edit Settings > Add New Device > Network Adapter. Select vmxnet3 and click OK.
  5. Repeat the same on all the vIDM appliance in the cluster.
  6. Power on all the vIDM nodes in the cluster from Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager.(LCM)
