Issue/Introduction

  • To re-onboard VMs in the existing onboarding plan or new onboarding plan.

Symptoms:
  • Unable to onboard VMs that are discovered, VMs do not show up while adding VM machine in the Onboarding plan.

Environment

VMware vRealize Automation 8.x

Cause

  • This is caused by failed previous onboarding attempt.

Resolution

  • There is a workaround.

Workaround:
Workaround steps are below:

(Please plan this in maintenance window as this needs affected VMs and vRA appliance downtime)

Take the snapshot of the vRA node without memory.

1.  Power off the affected VM's in the vCenter,
2. Make sure to note the path of the vmx file of all the affected virtual machines.
3. Remove affected VM’s from VC inventory, right click on VM and select remove from inventory.
4. Register back the VM’s in VC inventory.
5. Redeploy the vRA pods using deploy script.

  • Take putty session to vRA
  •  run the command /opt/scripts/deploy.sh

6. Once the script is successful, Create a new onboarding plan (the VM’s should now show up to be selected in the onboarding plan).

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
  • We will have the "old" VM on MISSING  status. No Major impact but this should be carried out with appropriate snapshots and backup.
