Issue/Introduction

  • Powering on a standalone virtual machine fails.

  • You see the error:

    'vami.netmask0.vm-name'. Network 'Some_Network' has no associated network protocol profile



Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs when a standalone virtual machine has the vApp options enabled but is not a member of a vApp.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use one of these options:

  • Create an IP pool at the data center level, assign it to a network and add the virtual machine to that network.

    Or
  • Disable the vApp options for the standalone virtual machine.
    • To disable vApp options in the vSphere Client:
      1. Right-click the virtual machine and click Edit Settings.
      2. Click the Options tab and click vApp Options.
      3. Select Disable and click OK.
    • To disable vApp options in the vSphere Web Client:
      1. Right-click the virtual machine and click Edit Settings.
      2. Click the vApp Options tab.
      3. Select Disable vApp options.
      4. Click OK.
