VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • While installing or upgrading vCenter Server to 6.0 using an external Platform Services Controller the installer prompts to accept the default certificate in the validation pop-up.
  • Even if the Machine SSL Certificate is replaced in the external Platform Services Controller, this validation will still present the default certificate.
  • Accepting this certificate proceeds with the installation.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Resolution

This is expected behavior.

The certificate presented is the internal VMware Directory Service certificate. This certificate is presented at this validation stage because the vCenter Server 6.0 installer is validating the Single Sign-On Administrator password. This is performed through an LDAP SSL connection to the VMware Directory Service on the external Platform Services Controller.
