Underscore Character in NTP Server Names is not supported in VCSA VAMI Page

Issue/Introduction

• Time servers (NTP) field in the VAMI page does not accept underscores as shown in the below example.
• SAVE button stays greyed out.

Environment

• VMware vCenter Server 7.x
• VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

By design, the (vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface) VAMI UI does not accept NTP names that contain underscore (_) characters.

Resolution

If the NTP server had underscore characters in it and the NTP server name cannot be changed, follow the workaround:

• Login to vCenter Server Appliance Shell.
• If direct access to the vCenter Server shell opens a Bash shell, to switch to the Appliance Shell, run the following command. Enter the root password when prompted:

• Update the NTP configuration using Appliance shell.
