Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When attaching the host profile and doing a pre-check prior to remediation, multiple settings are listed, not just the one selected.
  • Pre-check remediation lists a number of other configurational parameters stating "to be changed" along with only those parameters that are selected to be changed.
  • Also, remediating further will change all the listed configuration to its default value on the host post remediation.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5
VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x

Cause

When an advanced configuration parameter is deselected on the host profile, it is treated as default.
When the parameter value is the default value, it is not extracted and in other words, those non existed in host profile file is treated as having default value and also the disabled ones are treated default, which is why we see the list of parameters after running a pre-remediation check.

Resolution

Any advanced configuration disabled in a host profile will have its value treated as default while applying the host profile.
