Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The host or a virtual machine in vCenter Server inventory shows a red alert symbol.
  • There are no alarms listed in the Alarms tab.
  • The alert is not present when connecting directly to the host using vSphere Client.


Cause

This is caused by stale alert information within the vCenter Server database.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Restart the VMware vCenter Server service. For additional information, see How to stop, start, or restart vCenter Server services
  2. vMotion the affected virtual machine to another host.
  3. Restart the management agents on the source and destination host for the virtual machine. For additional information, see Restarting the Management agents in ESXi.
