Issue/Introduction

  • During failover or test failover to recovery SDDC, IP address customization in VLCR for RHEL VMs fails.
  • Recovery plan has the correct IP mapping for the affected VM.
  • The failure is only seen for VMs running RHEL 9 version.
  • IP address customization is recorded as successful in VLCR log.
  • Windows and REHL 8 OS types support IP address modification and function as intended, i.e. During the failover operation to the recovery SDDC, the source IP address switches to the target IP address as set in the VLCR recovery plan.
  • In the RHEL 9 VM, the IP address is still the same as the source.
  • /var/log/vmware-imc/toolsDeployPkg.log shows below error
      • [error] execv (/usr/bin/perl) failed to execute

Environment

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.27.x

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.26.x

Cause

This is caused due to a missing Perl package in the RHEL 9 version

Resolution

The error in the symptoms indicates the perl package is absent from the vanilla RHEL 9 version. Install the perl package in the RHEL 9 VM for the IP address customization to work.
