Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • During migration of VCF 3.x to VCF 4.x, vCenter Upgrade fails during VCSA installation
  • Cleanup should automatically recover and upgrade should become available. If the upgrade is not becoming available then below recovery steps should be followed


Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 4.1
VMware Cloud Foundation 4.0.x
VMware Cloud Foundation 4.x
VMware Cloud Foundation 4.2

Resolution

Recovery steps:

Revert to Source VC
  • Go to ESXi where target VC is present
  • Power Off if powered on
  • Go to ESXi where source VC is present
  • Power On if powered off
  • Delete target VM from inventory
  • Check the connection to VC after VC restarts
  • if the connection to VC is not working, then check if affinized PSC does not have this management node's machine account. Use this KB https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/68132 to fix PSC-1 issues.
  • If there is an Error 90021: The system is not joined to a domain VPXD failing to start then use the KB article https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/70867 to set the domain state.
  • Check the connection again
  • Change DRS to AUTOMATED (This has to be done by logging into vSphereClient and edit the DRS behaviour to AUTOMATED
  • Unmount ISO
    • Login to SDDC Manager
    • At the command prompt: sudo /opt/vmware/bin/scripthandler /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/bin/vc_upgrade_mount_script.sh /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/bin/vc_upgrade_mount_script.sh.sig unmount /nfs/vmware/vcf/nfs-mount/bundle/VMware/vRack/lcm/<upgrade_id>/<vcenter_id>/iso
