Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Configuration Drift upgrade may fail with error "InvalidArgument: A specified parameter was not correct: ConfigSpec.infrastructureTrafficResourceConfig"
  • VI Workload Domains' clusters will not have their virtual Distributed Switch Traffic Resources configured according to the VMware Validated Design recommendations.
  • If a VI Workload Domain is on NIOC2, the config drift will fail at 'A specified parameter was not correct: ConfigSpec.infrastructureTrafficResourceConfig'

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.9.x
VMware Cloud Foundation 3.8.x

Cause

This drift is meant to configure VI Workfload Domains in alignment with what is recommended with VVD.

Resolution

Ensure All Workload Domains are upgraded to NIOC3. See https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc/GUID-4F40390D-E5F4-4139-AC50-FDB2C4F36B42.html

For deployments content with the current DVS Traffic Resource configurations, leave the current settings as is.

For deployments that would like to align their configurations with VMware Validated Design, please configure with the following:

Traffic TypeShares
Fault Tolerance (FT) TrafficLow
Management TrafficNormal
NFS TrafficLow
Virtual Machine TrafficHigh
iSCSI TrafficLow
vMotion TrafficLow
vSAN TrafficHigh
vSphere Data Protection Backup TrafficLow
vSphere Replication (VR) TrafficLow

To Configure from the vCenter Server Web Client:
  1. Define Network I/O Control shares for the different traffic types on the the define Workload Domain distributed switch(es).
  2. Click the distributed switch for the VI cluster, click the Configure tab, and click Resource Allocation > System traffic.
  3. Under System Traffic, configure each of the following traffic types with the following values.

Detailed instructions for assigning these values through the UI can be found here on Page 34 https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Validated-Design/4.3/vmware-validated-design-43-sddc-regiona-deployment.pdf
