Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
After upgrading / migrating from vCenter Server 6.0 to vCenter Server 6.5/ VCSA 6.5 / 6.7, you experience these symptoms:
  • Custom permissions are not working as expected.
  • Permissions needs to be added explicitly on the host for virtual machines to view all network adapters.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x

Resolution

This is an expected behavior. For more information, see the Hierarchical Inheritance of Permissions section in the vSphere Security Guide.

Workaround:
To work around this issue, give permissions to System.View (Read only) at the host level.
