Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When uploading an OVF/OVA to the vCloud Director (vCD) Catalog, you see the error:
Certificate is not trusted, do you wish to add a exception?
  • If you select No, the upload fails
  • If you select Yes, you are still prompted with the same message during each new session of vCloud Director.
  • You also see the error:
cURL error: couldn't connect to server

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 1.0.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 5.6.x
VMware Cloud Director Appliance 5.5.x
VMware Cloud Director 5.5.x

Cause

This issue occurs due to an incorrect configuration of vCD Public Addresses in the vCloud Director user interface.

Resolution

To configure the Public Addresses section of vCD correctly:
  1. Log in to the vCloud Director user interface as a user with system privileges.
  2. Click the Administration tab.
  3. Click Public Address located under System Settings on the left side.
  4. Verify the value of the vCD public REST API base URL and ensure that it matches your vCD public URL that is currently set.

The upload should now be successful.

Additional Information

The uploading module utilizes the vCD public REST API base URL. When this value is missing, vCD tries to connect to one of the cells selected for the operation and not to the load balancer, as expected.
