Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Mouse and/or keyboard do not functioning properly within the Windows Virtual machine that is connected to a domain
  • Left or right mouse button does not work
  • Specific key strokes on the keyboard do not correspond to the key or input

Cause

This issue occurs if VMware Tools is installed within the domain user account, instead of the local administrator account in the virtual machine.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Uninstall VMware Tools via the Add/Remove programs section of the Windows Control Panel. You can also uninstall VMware Tools using the command line. For more information see Uninstalling VMware Tools in a Windows virtual machine using the command line (2010137).
  2. After VMware Tools is uninstalled from the domain user account, log off the domain user and log in to Windows using the local administrator account.
  3. Reinstall VMware Tools. For more information, see General VMware Tools installation instructions (1014294).
