To work around this issue, convert the source machine to a VMware Workstation virtual machine if you are unable to convert the source Windows machine to a VMware Infrastructure virtual machine.
To convert the source machine to a VMware Workstation virtual machine:
- As a local administrator, install VMware Converter Standalone application within the source physical windows machine. For more information, see Installing and Uninstalling Converter Standalone from VMware vCenter Converter Standalone User's Guide.
- Disable Windows firewall in the source Windows machine.
- Convert the source physical machine to a VMware Workstation virtual machine on the local or shared datastore (an additional disc may be available on the virtual machine):
- Select Powered-on machine from Select source type.
- Select This local machine from Specify the powered-on machine.
- Select VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine from Select destination type.
- The Select VMware Product dropdown is auto-populated.
- Choose a location from Select a location for the virtual machine.
- Move the folder containing the created VMware Workstation virtual machine files inside the isolated destination environment, if it is not already there.
- Convert again using VMware Converter standalone located inside the isolated environment (for example, install Converter on vCenter). Set the newly created files of the Workstation machine as the source and VMware Infrastructure virtual machine as the destination.
- Select VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine from Select source type.
- Browse to the Workstation virtual machines .vmx file from Browse for source virtual machine or image.
- Select VMware Infrastructure virtual machine from Select destination type.
