Custom groups filter out Not Collecting objects in vRealize Operations Manager 6.x and later

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Reports run against a custom group that contains objects in a Not Collecting or Not Existing state do not include results from said objects.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.7.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.0.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.6.x

Cause

Custom groups automatically filter out results from objects that are not in a Collecting state.

Resolution

This is expected behavior in vRealize Operations Manager 6.x and later.

Workaround:
To report against objects that are in a Not Collecting or Not Existing state, run the report against a different Parent Object type that includes the desired objects as Children.

Example: To report on Virtual Machines that are in a Not Collecting or Not Existing state, run the report at the vSphere World, vCenter, Datacenter, or Host level.
