Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When looking at a Datastore Cluster summary screen, the number of Powered On Virtual machines under the Capacity Remaining box displays a question mark.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.6.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.0.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.7.x

Cause

On a raw relationship level, Virtual Machines are not considered descendant resources of Datastore Clusters.
In order to map Virtual Machines transitively to a Datstore Pod, we have a traversal spec, which is a mask describing how to navigate a relationship tree.

When viewing the summary page, there are three widgets in question:
  • Capacity Widget
  • Recommended Actions Widget
  • Relationship Tree
In the latter two views, the traversal spec which maps Virtual Machines to a Datastore Cluster is used.  In the capacity widget, it is not.  Because of this, the widget does not display Virtual Machines; we receive a null/empty value from the cluster, and display it as a ?.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior with current vRealize Operations Manager design.
