Issue/Introduction

  • Consolidation of snapshots fails after backup using VDDK against vSphere 6.5 environment.
  • The issue occurs when SAN transport mode is used.

Environment

  • Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.7
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5
  • Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.0
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
  • Virtual Disk Development Kit 6.5

Cause

This issue occurs because the ddb.adapterType in vmdk file is legacyESX, which is regarded as invalid adapter type.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in:

  • VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 3
  • VMware ESXi 6.7 Update 2

Workaround:
To work around this issue, avoid invalid adapter.

Change the ddb.adapterType in vmdk file to a valid adapter. You may safely change this to buslogic or lsilogic, depending on what your virtual machine guest is using.

Note: It is recommended to use ide, buslogic and lsilogic as valid adapters.
