Unable to perform Refresh vCenter operation after Upgrading vCloud Director

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After upgrading vCloud Director, you are unable to perform the Refresh vCenter operation
  • Unable to register vCloud Director as an extension to vCenter Server VC_User @https://vCenter Server:443/sdk with extension key vCloud Director-Installation_ID.


Environment

VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.0.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.10.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.20.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the extension information in vCenter Server does not match the current extension data that gets pushed down from vCloud Director when the Refresh occurs.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vCloud Director for Service Providers 8.x and 8.10.x. that may occur after an upgrade.
Currently, there in no resolution.

VMware is working to resolve this issue in a future releases.
To work around this issue:
  1. Shutdown the vCloud Director Services on all Cells via the Cell Management Tool.
  2. Remove the vCloud Director Extension from vCenter Server.
    Use the UnregisterExtension method:

    1. Unregister from vSphere MOB View by navigating to https://VC/mob/?moid=ExtensionManager.
    2. Paste the Name of the Extension as it appears in the Value field.

      For example: 'extensionList["vCloud Director-1"]', the Extension Name is 'vCloud Director-1'.

    3. Click Invoke Method. you should receive a void response to show the operation has run.

    4. Refresh the Extension Manager page and you should no longer see the extension.

  3. Start the vCloud Director service.
  4. Refresh vCenter Server from vCloud Director UI. This updates the vCD version in vCenter Solutions Manager
