Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
You see invalid vapp_vm entries when upgrading vCD from pre-8.10 to 8.10 or higher using Oracle 11g.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.20.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.10.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 9.x

Cause

If using Oracle 11g, 11.2.0.x, it is possible the vapp_vm table will have invalid values for the check_post_gc_status column after upgrading to vCD 8.10 or higher (from a pre-8.10 version). The only valid entries for this column are the numbers 1 or 0, any other values, including NULL values, should be considered invalid.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, execute the following SQL query on the Oracle DB while all vCD cells are STOPPED:

ALTER TABLE vapp_vm DROP COLUMN check_post_gc_status;
ALTER TABLE vapp_vm ADD check_post_gc_status NUMBER(1,0) DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL;
