Issue/Introduction

Is there a trap MIB for the snmpgtw probe?

    Environment

This is general information applicable to most UIM versions.

    Resolution

NIMSOFT.MIB is attached to this article.

Also attached to this article is a file named "nimovtrap_conf.txt." This file contains trap definitions used to configure HP OpenView's trap handler so that it can receive traps from the snmpgtw probe.

When compared with the settings of the snmpgtw profile for HP OpenView, the reader can easily determine the structure of traps coming from the gateway and fashion a trap decoder and snmpgtw profile settings necessary for the target NMS.

This is a list of fields sent by the SNMP trap gateway:

    OID
    Source (host)
    Target (host)
    Community
    Message level
    Ident ("NimBUS/SNMP gateway")
    Subsystem
    Alarm Message

This is a fixed list, and can not be modified via a configuration. Some of these fields might be empty, but it is not possible to add more fields to this list, e.g. the NimID of the Alarm.
